On 30 September 2026, Versa Biomedical achieved AAALAC International accreditation, the global benchmark for the humane care and use of animals in research. It is a milestone we are proud of, and one that reflects a commitment that has guided our work for more than 12 years.

What AAALAC accreditation means

AAALAC International (Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International) is a non-profit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation.

Accreditation is not required by law. It goes beyond what regulation demands, and earning it means opening our entire animal care and use program to independent experts: our facilities, our protocols, the training of our people and the way we work every day.

It is not a one-time achievement either. AAALAC carries out periodic site visits and requires accredited organizations to keep it informed of significant changes in between. The standard has to be met not once, but continuously.

Beyond the standard

For us, AAALAC is a reference point, not a finish line. Animal welfare is something we care deeply about, and it goes far beyond what the accreditation requires.

It starts before any study begins. Breeding our own SPECIPIG® miniature pigs allows us to care for them from birth, in an environment we know and control. It continues in how they live: in groups, in spaces designed around their natural behavior and needs. And it is present in every study we design, guided by the principles of replacement, reduction and refinement, and supported by care protocols that go further than required.

This is not a box we tick. It is a commitment we live, and one we keep strengthening.

A shared commitment

We know that animal welfare matters just as much to the sponsors, researchers and medtech innovators we work with across 14 countries. This accreditation gives them an internationally recognized guarantee that our ad hoc porcine models are developed with the highest level of care.

The people behind it

Behind all of this is a team. Our veterinary and animal care staff, who are with our animals every day. The professionals who never stop learning how to care for them better. And everyone who devoted time and effort to preparing for the accreditation process.

This milestone belongs to all of them.

Open models, open futures.
